In the past, the Kill Cage was open for 24 hours and 7 days a week. This continuous service was to avoid the “over the wall” surrendering of unwanted animals which has been reported in the past.
The renovation will include a roof for the location and new operation hours and days for dropping off or picking up of animals.
This will be the first steps towards the regulation process of euthanasia of unwanted animals and will also improve the service for drop off and pick up.
During the renovation it is advised not to drop off any animals nor abandon unwanted animals on the streets or at the current location. The Vet services pleads everyone to keep the unwanted animals or seek assistance of one of the foundations or organizations dedicated to finding adoptive owners for the pets.
The main goal of the improved location is to avoid an increase of unwanted pets being abandoned on the streets with all consequences of propagation and all other unwanted incidents like traffic accidents, encounters with people exercising and attacks on small livestock, such as goats and sheep.
The Department of Public Health is advising pet owners to sterilize all pets in order to help reduce the amount of unwanted pets suffering on the streets.
